Stencilling Your Cookies
There are a variety of ways you can use stencils to decorate your cookies.
Care Instructions
Wash your stencil in warm soapy water before use. Either pat gently dry or air dry
naturally. This stencil is not dishwasher proof.
Using Edible Lustre Dusts and Colours
Again, knead the sugar paste to warm it then roll it out to the desired thickness. You
can use spacers to achieve an even thickness for that professional look!  Lightly
grease one side of the stencil with white vegetable fat (to prevent it sticking) and
place it greased side down onto the sugar paste. Gently roll your rolling pin over the
stencil then smear a thin coating of white vegetable fat over the design. Holding the
stencil in place with one hand, gently brush the lustre dust over the stencil using a
soft brush.  Ensure that you use up all the dust held in your brush before lifting the
stencil to reveal your work!  Avoid excess dust marking the sugar paste. Using the
same cutter that you used to make your cookies, place it over your stenciled
design and cut out the shape. Brush your cookie with edible glue then lift the paste
using a palette knife and carefully position it onto the cookie.  Gently run the tip of
your finger around the edges of the cookie to secure the design.

For a raised “embossed” effect, use royal icing. Just mix the icing a little thicker
than you would for piping.
Firstly, knead the sugar paste to warm it, then roll it out to the desired thickness.
Lightly grease one side of the stencil with white vegetable fat (to prevent it sticking)
and place it greased side down onto the sugar paste. Using a scraper or angled
palette knife spread a small amount of the icing over the stencil ensuring that you
cover the whole design before carefully lifting it up to reveal your work!  Using the
same cutter that you used to make your cookies, place it over your stenciled
design and cut out the shape. Brush your cookie with edible glue then lift the paste
using a palette knife and carefully position it onto the cookie.  Gently run the tip of
your finger around the edges of the cookie to secure the design.
